The cymbals are disk of metal that are hit, brushed, or occassionally rubbed with a bow to produce a unique percussion sound. They provide the exclamation points in orchestra and band music and a soft delicate rhythm in jazz and rock.
The high hat suspends two cymbals on a bar allowing the drummer to make the two cymbals crash by stepping on a foot pedal. This apparatus allow jazz and rock drummers to add the crash of a cymbal to their music.
