Stretching across the North American continent, Canada has a variety of terrains and climate, but its northern location and proximity subject it to cold winters.

There are two dominant European influences on Canadian culture: Britain and, in the province of Quebec, France. But Canandian music is also strongly influenced by its southern neighbor, the United States and the sounds of native Canadians, including the Eskimos, who have their own distinctive songs

Eskimo songs are like talking because they use fewer tones than Euro-Americans are familiar with. They will use those tones to tell the local gossip or settle an argument as the sing insults at each other. Like other Native Americans, Eskimos have songs designed to improve the weather.
