Women of Today
Much has changed in the history of Alaska since the Russians established their first colony on Kodiak Island in 1783 and we became aware of the native peoples who lived here. Throughout Alaska's early history and even through the gold rush period there were not a significant number of women in Alaska. While this has changed somewhat there are still more men in Alaska than women.

The women who first came to Alaska were always full of life and looking to live life to its fullest. This has not changed; women are still actively involved in shaping Alaska's history.
