Aleut Visor

Aleut men wore wooden visors while hunting. These visors kept off the rain and kept the animals they were hunting from seeing their eyes. They thought the animals would not be scared away if they didn't see their eyes. The visor also reduced the glare on the water.

Visor You can make a Aleut visor out of a piece of large file folder, crayons or paints, and staples or tape.

  1. Cut diagonally from the edge to the point.
  2. Color or paint the visor.
  3. After you finish decorating your visor, overlap the corners and staple or tape.
  4. You can attach beads for further decoration.
The Aleut made their visors out of thin boards glued together with the blood from their noses! We recommend the modern version using staples or tape.
