Write a sentence for each vocabulary word. Be sure to use it in context for its time period. eg Chilkoot Pass. Traversing the Chilkoot Pass was always difficult, but in winter it was treacherous. Change words to fit the time period you are studying and delete or add to them as is appropriate.
Create word puzzles using the vocabulary words. Students may make up their own puzzles to challenge or trade with other students
Use the vocabulary words chosen as spelling words to reinforce skills in alphabetizing.
Practice dictionary skills by looking up selected vocabulary words. As students look up the words teach reading the pronunciation keys.
Make vocabulary flash cards. Include both the word and key clue words on each card. Make two sets of each word. Students can study the words as the play a "memory game" with the cards.
