GENERAL DESCRIPTION
| Venus is the second planet outward from the sun, with a similar size, mass, and radius to the next door planet, Earth. Venus is known as the second brightest celestial object in the night sky next to the moon. This is due to the planet's relative proximity to the sun and its highly reflective atmosphere. Venus has been known since ancient times, as two objects, the Morning Star (Phosphorus) and the Evening Star (Hesperus). Later, it was then recognized as a planet and named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, equivalent to the Greek goddess Aphrodite. |
