Using the work of Astronomer/mathematician Johannes Kepler, Newton proposed that:

The force of attraction between two objects is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the center of gravity of each object.

Form this we get the equation: F = G M m / d 2

and v = Ö(Gm2 / d)

Where F is the force, (newtons) M and m are the masses of the two objects,(Kilograms) d is the distance(metres), and G is the Universal Gravitational Constant
