GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Uranus was the first planet to be discovered that required a telescope for it to be seen clearly. The planet is named for the earliest supreme god of Greek mythology. In terms of size, it is smaller than Jupiter and Saturn while being very close to the size of Neptune. Uranus is surrounded by 15 satellites. The axial rotation period is thought to be 17 hours and 8 minutes. The speed of rotation of Uranus causes the planet to be flattened at its poles. Being the seventh planet from the sun, it receives little of the sun's heat.
