| Dear Aunt Cynthia,
How are you and Uncle Clarence doing? I’m OK now, but I’ve been having a rotten time in Sam’s dead body. All of these bacteria started crowding in around us, and some fermentative ones spit enzymes on me! One particular enzyme, named Protease, did something called hydrolysis and broke the bonds between my Serine molecule and the other amino acids. Then some other bacteria called acetogens used some oxygen gas to convert my molecule into acetic acid. The pH got very low because of me and the other acid molecules. When it finally returned to normal, more bacteria started bugging me. They were called methanogens, and they looked pretty old. The methanogens made my molecule react with hydrogen and carbon dioxide gases. I was changed into methane. Now I’m floating free in a gas molecule. Well, I guess I’d better go. Write soon! Love, Captain Carbon
