Hey Grandma!

I'm so excited! This morning...well, it's hard to tell if it was morning or not since it was so dark inside his body. Anyways, I think it was morning and Tom was making his daily 5-mile run. Can you believe that? He is really healthy, but the amount of glycolysis needed to supply his body was enormous. I was split from molecules and rearranged so many times I'm surprised I'm still in one atom. I was so worried that I would lose some electrons along the way, that would have really let me down. Then, all of a sudden, I wasn't in Tom's body anymore! He had let me go by exhaling me through his windpipe. The fresh air felt wonderful and I saw so many of my old friends floating near me in the air. Night is approaching and I have been floating around as CO2 all day long. I haven't really decided where I'm going to stay tonight, but I'm sure someone will take me in.

With my head in the clouds,

Chris

Dear Uncle Clarence,

Have you talked to mom recently? I wrote her a postcard last week, but she hasn't sent me one back yet. Tell her I'll definitely be able to make the family reunion. Well, I have to tell you about the last couple of days of my journey. I was floating around as CO2 in the air on Wednesday night looking for a hotel to stay in for the night. I tried to dissolve myself in a nearby lake or find a little hole in the ground to sleep in, but nothing seemed to work. The water was too hot and the ground was too brittle for me to be comfortable in either one. Dejected, I resigned myself to a night of floating in the air when I was grabbed from behind! It turned out that my kidnapper was a leaf that needed me to help him out. I thought it was a little rude because he could've just asked but it turned out okay. He used me for photosynthesis and I ended up feeling a little sweeter to him when I became part of glucose. There's only one problem. I was in glucose just a week or so ago! I just can't seem to win.

Your sad and bored nephew,

Captain Carbon
