Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluable vitamin normally produced by our body when it is
exposed to sunlight; however, due to the growing trend of indoor lifestyles,
it is important to ensure enough vitamin D is in your diet.
Vitamin D:
- Facilitates the absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus by the body
- Helps in the maintenance of bones and teeth
Signs of deficiency include:
- Osteomalacia (softening/shortening of bones, muscle spasms/twitching)
- Rickets (stunted skeletal growth, bowed legs, abnormal teeth)
Excessive amounts of vitamin D cause:
- Calcium buildup
- Deafness
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
