As you pick a place to start exploring, this page shows miniature versions of each of the close-up pictures that make up the southern half of the first quadrant--from the equator at the top here to the pole at the bottom. This view also will help you understand how the mosaic of Mars images is put together, another important lesson of using the Mars Map. Notice that there are fewer images closer to the bottom and that some of the images overlap more than others in order to give better views.
To select a section to explore, simply click on its miniature representation. You will then be taken to an enlarged view, with the image colorized in shades of orange. If you want to look at a different quadrant, then you can use the links below the mosaic. Sections marked in red here are areas that include a potential mission landing site. Enjoy exploring the surface!
(Note that it wraps around the 180 degree mark, which is represented by the extreme ends of the main map.)
