Save a Turtle


Long, long, ago there was a sea turtle named Kauila (cow ee la). Legend says that she protected and watched over little children. It was said that she could turn into a small girl herself and swim with the children. Now the tides have turned. Today, instead of the sea turtles protecting us, we must protect them. We must reverse roles and become Aliuak (a lee oo ca), protector of the sea turtles. This web page is dedicated to the survival of sea turtles and to showing how you can help to insure that they will always be here to watch over us.

On April 3, 1997, Laura Smither, a team member on the Save a Turtle Project, was abducted and murdered. This project was completed by her friends and team mates. The following site was erected by a resident of Laura's community of Friendswood, Texas that was touched by the life of this remarkable child:
