The Final Stages

The end of the war was then near on January 27 of 1973, one week after Nixon's second inauguration; all four parties of the struggle signed a cease fire agreement. The U.S. withdrew its troops soon after and the South fell in May, 1975. The country was then finally united as a Socialist Republic by early 1976.
