Plans

A description of how the Team proposes to accomplish the Entry. This description should convince the evaluators that the Team has realistic plans for implementing the Proposal Concept.

Due to the close proximity of the group members, we are able to have personal meetings at least once a week. At these meetings we can discuss and work on our entry. We intend to use a large array alternative forms of communications that are made available in our schools, such as, e-mail, phone, video teleconferencing and Interactive-TV.

To distribute work evenly we have decided to divide the decade into sections. Each team member will be responsible for two sections of the decade and all matters pertaining to it. The team has also established a Team Leader to oversee and manage the actual implementation of the project. As a team we have already designated ourselves certain tasks, for example, our HTML person, our copyright person, and our graphics design person.

Since current trends reflect those of the 1960's we feel that the project has a naturally appealing nature to our audience. To promote this appealing nature, we will design the website to allow the user to submerge and interact in the environment of the time period. The sixties being such a broad decade we have decided to only focus on certain events:

John F. Kennedy's Administration will be a major part of our website. We plan to discuss his election, assassination, and President Johnson's continuation of the administration. We also plan to examine their connection and influence in The Civil Rights Movement, The Bay of Pigs, The Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam.

We would like to take an insider's look at the Bay of Pigs by interviewing men and women who actually partook in the invasion and were directly affected by it. We have the advantage of living in Union City where our population is around seventy-five percent Hispanic and of that seventy-five percent, more than eighty percent is of Cuban heritage. Of that population many are former political prisoners and exiles. Also we will explain the causes and effects.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a major event which one cannot fail to mention when looking back at the 1960's. It was the closest that we as Americans have ever come to war at the homefront. We plan to discuss the effects and causes, as well as it's connections to The Bay of Pigs. As an added feature, we feel that we will be able to provide an accurate explanation of the event from people who were involved in the politics of the issue.

The Sexual Revolution played a major role in the behavior of the cultural society. We plan to research the causes and effects of this phenomenon and establish an educated guess of legacies that it has left in today's society.

Cultural events seemed to be a major concern to students who were polled. We have decided to include various topics in this section, but not just display information about popular songs, TV shows and movies. Most importantly we will establish a relation to political events that might have influenced them. For example, we plan to look at the music and literature of the 1960's. We will compose a list of the top songs from the 1960's using Billboard data and include sound clips of songs of the era using RealAudio technology. Interactive profiles of major artist and groups will be included and will discuss major events that might have influenced the song. As for literature, we will examine the political and social issues through essays, poems, and book excerpts written during that time.
