Overview Description

An "overview" which describes the proposed Entry in several paragraphs. This is very important since it will be used in publicity about your Proposal Concept and Entry.

What were the sixties? To people who lived them they were a time of war, change, freedom, and a new awakening. But what about us, Generation X? Do the sixties mean anything to us? Yes, but not just because we have to study the period in our history classes, but because we have a genuine interest in the time period. A time that deserves to be remembered. The goal of this project is to make the sixties come alive in the minds of this new generation. Our entry is intended to raise awareness of political and social issues of the time period by luring people through the social/cultural aspects. This method should be a success being that current trends reflect those of the 1960's, allowing us to create a site that is attractive to our audience (12-18 year olds). Not only will our website cover major events in great detail, but it will be interactive, allowing students to spend a great amount of time visiting the site and interactively learning.

A monumental task, the sixties is a large time period that was host to many events. We cannot possibly cover the entire sixties because of its extensive nature. Therefore, we have selected to focus only major events, for example, Music and Literature, The Sexual Revolution, John F. Kennedy's Administration, The Cuban Missile Crisis, The Bay of Pigs, and Entertainment. Each topic has subtopics which relate to each other allowing us to research and cover the decade in great depth.

The team is composed of three students who live in the same community, but come from very different ethnic and economic backgrounds. We also have different interest and areas of talent, such as, fine arts and graphics, computers and social studies, and literature and politics. We feel that we do not need to go outside our community to find diversity being that we live in "The most densely populated city per square mile in the United States of America," and one of the most ethnically diverse. Our coaches are all teachers in our school district and have different educational backgrounds and teach different subjects: Social Studies, Business, and Computers. We feel that our team has all the aspects necessary to succeed because of our diversity and common interest.
