Mountain Biking!

Mountain biking, the sport that has taken the world by storm, began (arguably) in the hills of Marin County.

A couple of guys (Russ and Bernie Mahon, and Carter Cox) slapped derailleurs on

a few old bikes and, boom, they started a trend.

Old Schwinns Excelsiors were used as the first fat tire racers,

but soon custom built specialty frames replaced them as the craze took hold.

Repack, was the name of the first official race,

but the legends who rode it (builders such as Gary fisher, Joe Breeze, Charlie Kelly, and Tom Ritchey),

probably never thought their makeshift wilderness machines

would gain enough speed to carry a new sport into the Olympics and international success.

Now it is impossible to keep track of the thousands of names, products, and companies that litter the MTB industry.
