Identification: The 2.25 - 4.25 inch Green Frog is highly variable in its color, although is is usually green or greenish brown. It has a large external eardrum and prominent ridges on its pack. The upper lip is usually green, and Green Frogs usually have a white belly with a dark pattern of lines and spots. Its voice resembles the "twang" of a banjo, and they usually only utter a single note (which can be repeated rapidly). This nocturnal species is not as vigilant as other species, as they are often caught but seldom scream in alam as others do. Green frogs can sometimes be blue. This may occur when the natural yellow pigment of the skin is lacking which can create a partially blue dorsum. There have also been reports of blue Leopard Frogs as well as blue Bullfrogs.
Location: Green frogs can be found from Southern Ontario east to Newfoundland, as far south as North Carolina and as far west as Oklahoma. This species has also been introduced into Canada, various parts of the West, and Hawaii.
Habitat: This species lives in close proximity to shallow water (such as a spring, swamp, brook, creek, ditch, etc...) and can also be found near rotting debris, like that of a fallen tree.
