Fowler's Toad

The Fowler's ToadIdentification: The Fowler's Toad is a fairly large toad (2.5 - 5 inches), yellow to green to brown in color, with a light stripe down the middle of its back. It has pronounced cranial crests that touch the parotoid glands behind the eye. Its sound has been described as being like "the bleat of a sheep with a cold."

Fowler's Toad RangeLocation: The Fowler's Toad can be found from the Lake Michigan region east through most of PA to southeast New York and southern New England. They can be found as far south as the Gulf Coast and as far west as eastern Texas.

Habitat: This toad can be found in sandy areas near marshes, irrigation ditches, backyards, and temporary pools. While they are occasionally active during the day, they will usually remain in hiding in burrows or dense vegetation during daylight hours. This is a nocturnal species which can be found catching its food at night, although they are commonly spotted under lights.
