Anemia and New York's Homeless Families
United States
The results of this study confirm what many of the world's top scientists have believed for years. The theory is that a much higher percentage of homeless people suffer from Iron Deficiency Anemia. A test of true "street dwellers" was taken, and yes, many more of them were anemic than expected. This is the result of not enough homeless shelters and food distribution houses, because the sheltered homeless were also tested, and they were not more anemic than expected.
The only way to solve this problem is to build more food distribution centers and homeless shelters. Anemia is very difficult to get, as you can see from the homeless who frequent the shelters that still have a good iron supply.
