Some people with food allergies show no symptoms. Others may experience a rash, hives, or itchiness in their skin. Others may experience gastrointestinal problems. Most food allergies come from nuts, eggs, milk, wheat, and soy. Fish, shellfish, chicken, and tomatoes may cause problems too. To identify an allergy, a doctors ask patients to cut out certain foods one at a time from their diet or to keep a food diary.
