DesoxyriboNucleidAcid
Structure of the DNA
The DNA is a carrier of genetic information. The sequence of nucleic base
pairs are a genetic code, similar to the morse code of telegraphs or ASCII
code of computers. Every detail of a living organism is contained within
this information: the physiognomy, groundstructure of behaviour and the
blueprints of all body characteristic proteins and polypeptides (enzymes).
The polypeptids are chains of amino acids. The information about the stucture
of these polypeptids are stored in genes, which are short pieces of the
DNA. Each triple of nucleic bases (codon) represents one amino acid in
the polypeptid.
The four nucleic bases of the DNA
If we now find an intact DNA chain of a dinosaur, place it into a living
cell form which we removed the original DNA contents, this cell will develop
like a fertilized egg cell of an original dinosaur. This technique is known
as gene technology and in common use to improve properties of plants and
animals.
The only remaining problem therefore is getting an intact dinosaur
DNA chain.
