Will it possible to re-create dinosaurs?
The question, if it is possible to re-create dinosaurs
came up to the public with the film Jurassic park. There, scientists take
dinosaur blood from mosquitos, which was conserved million of years ago
in amber. Then they extracted the DNA and implanted them in frog eggs.
But what in the film seems to go, is in reality
almost impossible and there are many reasons:
-
First you cannot find amber everywhere and amber
with insects inside is very rare.
-
Then they must have drunken dinosaurs blood before
they died.
-
It is also important, that they only have drunk
dinosaurs blood and that it is not too long before their death (otherwise
it is half digested).
-
And the greatest problem is, that by the million
of years the DNA chain would have "holes", which must be fixed.
So you can see, that it is not very probable to
get a working piece of dna. The chances of re-creating a dinosaur are therefore
very unlikely.
Have
a look on an insect in amber!!
