Selecting a Fleet
To select a fleet, simply find it in the drop-down list box at the top of the screen. The fleet information will immediately be displayed below for you to edit.
Transfering Ships
To transfer Ships, click on the arrows to move them to and from the selected fleet. When the units are moved out of the fleet they remain idle unless you later put them into another group.
Ship Types
Ships come in three basic varieties:
- Men-of-War - the greatest battleships of the seas. These vessels are excellent in any situation. The only way to take them down is to overwhelm them with numbers.
- Frigates - strong craft that rank between the expensive Men-of-War and the cheap Privateers in might.
- Privateers - the cheapest and quickest to produce ship in your navy. These craft are fast but weak in a direct confrontation with a more powerful fleet. They are good blockaders, though, and their abilities shouldn't be underestimated.
Orders
Using this drop-down list box you change your fleet's orders. There are three options available:
- Defend Colony - puts your fleet on guard. This order tells them to prepare for an oncoming attack and is the best option when there is a danger of an enemy blockade attempt.
- Sail to... - tells your men to move to an adjacent colony. If you order them to go to enemy waters, they will attack any defending fleets and begin to blockade.
- Rest in Harbor - allows your men to take it easy for a while. This is good for morale, but renders the fleet useless if enemy ships should pass by.
Create Fleet
This button allows you to create a new empty fleet. Empty fleets are useless until you supply them with ships and orders.
Dismiss Fleet
This button gets rid of the current fleet. CAUTION: THIS WILL REMOVE ALL THE SHIPS IN THE FLEET FROM THE GAME! It's usually a good idea to remove anything you want to save from the fleet first.
