Planaria

Interesting Factoids:

Planaria are commonly found in the creek. We usually acquire large numbers of them when using the kicknet. They are most commonly found under rocks. Feeding is carried out by a muscular pharyn, located on the mid ventral surface, sucks up organic matter from the surface upon which it is crawling. Movement may be accomplished either by muscular contractions of the body wall or the use of cilia along the ventral surface. When using the cilia the planarian appears to be gliding across the surface.

This close up view was taken using a flex cam. Using Adobe Photoshop we added labels for the eye spots and the digestive gut.
