Interesting Factoids:
Cyclops is a microscopic aquatic crustacean. It filters algae and other organic
substances as it swims through the water by using its two large antennae. The single
compound eye in the center of the head enable the cyclops to swim to areas where
algae is likely to be abundant. The cyclops shown above was caught in October at
creek site #4 and photographed with the flex cam coupled to the ocular lens of a compound
light microscope. The specimen was photographed at 100 magnification. |
