One of our goals is to do some long term population studies of permanent creek residents. In some cases this will involve the development of special traps. The photograph you see above is of an invertebrate trap designed by a biology student. Chicken wire was used to enclose numerous large rocks. This trap was then placed in the creek and left for a specified amount of time. When collected, the rocks are looked at closely for the presence of specific types of organisms. Succession can be studied by collecting the traps at different time intervals.
