Nitrites/Nitrates

High levels of Nitrates in water can promote algae blooms and effect turbidity and dissolved oxygen levels. Fertilizers carried to the creek by runoff can raise Nitrate levels. Nitrates, a product of decomposition, can easily be converted into nitrates and also impact pH. A high concentration of nitrates in the creek can lead to a large number of algae blooms in the creek and increase turbidity.
