Aquatic Invertebrate Sampling
Sampling aquatic life away from the bank will provide a more complete picture of the health of our creek. A kicknet is placed near the center of the creek. The net is placed at a 45 degree angle leaning down stream. While one student holds the net, another student turns over rocks on the bottom. Invertebrates get caught in the current and are swept into the net. Samplings of organisms are classified, counted, and then released back into the creek by the student team.
