General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon.>

The F-16 is a single-seat, one-engine fighter. Its light weight and small size make it exceptionally maneuverable, yet still able to handle large armament loads. The plane is relatively easy to maintain; an engine change can be made in 30 minutes. The Falcon has a top speed of Mach 2 and a range of 2,400 miles.

<Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21MF Fishbed

The Iraqis used the Fishbed in its designed role: a fast, very maneuverable, light fighter. However, it was proven outdated by more modern Allied aircraft. Its single engine can boost the Fishbed to speeds of Mach 2.1, but its range is only 1,100 miles. It can be fitted with air-to-air or light air-to-ground weapons.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum>

The Fulcrum was Iraq's most advanced aircraft. It remains one of the world's most capable fighters or interceptors. Its two turbofans give a top speed of Mach 2.3, with a range of 1,300 miles. It can also be configured for a ground attack role. The Fulcrum's radar can track and lock on a target below the fighter. Its major drawback, however, is that the radar cannot simultaneously track a target while looking for others.

<Lockheed F-117A Stealth Fighter

The Stealth's distinctive arrowhead shape, utilizing several odd angles, serves to reflect radar in all directions. The surface of the plane is also coated with a radar-absorbent material. These features make the aircraft nearly invisible to radar. The Stealth's primary role is that of ground attack, which it carried out with surgical precision, as seen by TV footage of "smart bombs". Its two turbofans give it a subsonic speed and a limited range.
