Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is actually two waterfalls, located in Canada and New York. The two falls are the American falls and the Horseshoe Falls, or Canadian Falls. A small island named Goat Island separates the two falls.

The Falls were formed about 12,000 years ago, when glaciers receded, allowing water to flow from Lake Erie. Niagara Falls is an enormous tourist attraction. It attracts millions of visitors each year, all wanting to see its powerful waterflow.

The American Falls is 182 feet high and the Canadian Falls is 173 feet high. The volume of water of the Falls is about 197,940 cubic feet. This allows for hydroelectric dams to be built, which supplies nearby cities with electrical power. At the present rate of erosion, you can expect Niagara Falls to look pretty different in the next 400 years.
