Great Barrier Reef

Stretching approximately 2000 km from the Torres Strait, one of the most spectacular wonders of the world lays North of Australia to just South of the Tropic of Capricorn. This great site is the Great Barrier Reef, and the largest structure ever made by anything living, including humans. It was built from many species of coral polyps, consisting of coral reefs, bays, lagoons, islands, cays, and deep water channels, and covers about 160,000 square Km of Ocean - As it fringes islands on its edge and rises up to 180 meters from the sea floor. The reef provides an ideal barrier to the northeastern coast of Australia from the destructive seas of the Pacific Ocean - not only grand in size but also in content. The Great Barrier Reef contains about 1500 species of fish, six of turtles, and 40 species of birds all in a strange yet unique environment.

To visit and actually see it with your own eyes is a spectacular view and unbelievable. Where is the best place to see the Reef? Green Island, a cay of coral, where underwater museums provide a rare look. This is a place that will always strike the curiosity of the mind from world travelers with its lasting beauty. The Great Barrier Reef is considered one of the twenty natural wonders.
