Giant’s Causeway

Giant’s causeway is a promontory of basalt on the Northwest coast of Moyle district.

Its brilliant hexagon-like forms were caused by rapid cooling of lava as it entered the ocean. These great columns are from 15-20 inches in diameter; some are 20 ft. (6 m) in height.

At some points, the causeway is 40ft. wide. The most remarkable cliff is the Pleaskin, with 400ft. high pillars.

Its name was derived by folklore, comparing Giant’s Causeway to a race of Giant’s who built it as a roadway to Staffa. Giant's Causeway is considered one of the twenty natural wonders.
