Prince William Sound: Paradise Lost?
Research Guide: About This Site
This site was originally created during the 1996/1997 school year as an entry in the ThinkQuest Internet Site competition. It was a semi-finalist. Since initial creation the site has been entirely redesigned and content infinitely improved.
The current layout was first implemented in 1998 to improve navigation as this was an area where the site was docked points during the competition. Though viewable by all main-stream browsers, design is conducted using the second most recent release of Internet Explorer.
As the Ten year anniversary of the Spill passed in March of 1999 visitor traffic to this site quadroupled over March 1998. As a whole, visitors and site traffic continue an impressive upward trend, increasing by a third yearly. In 2001, approximately 28,700 visit were made to the site with 402,000 page views. This is over a third more than the 290,000 page views and 20,700 visits experienced in 2000.
The most popular section of this site is the Introduction section. The most popular page, not including the homepage, is the Cleanup Index.
Major improvements were made to the site in 2001. First, perl scripts were implemented to dynamically create printable versions of web pages. This cut down on maintenance and removed sometimes common differences between viewable and printable version of a page. Second, an image gallery was added. This completed the original phased implementation of this site. Gallery pages were instantly some of the most popular on the site. And finally, a cookie is now used to reduce the number of times you see the page dynamically loaded by Thinkquest before enterance to this site.
Thanks for stopping by.
