Jaime,

You asked some very good and involved questions, but I'll try my best to answer them!!!

1) You asked about student life here and I have to tell you--many students find our campus to be one of the most beautiful and vibrant they've ever seen. We attract students of all different backrounds and interests. We have over 100 clubs and student groups so there is always something new to experience. At the same time, students have described the university as a large campus with a small campus feel. We have campus tours everyday between 2:30 and 4:00 and I would encourage you to come visit us!!!

2) The thing that makes this campus unique is our student body and our resources. As I mentioned before, the student body here is as diverse and in many ways, as progressive as the city of Seattle itself. Students can participate in scores of activities that reflect their cultural, political, or social interests. The UW also has a host of resources that students can take advantage of academically and socially. Computer centers, tutoring and career centers, the student activity building, etc all provide our students with the resources necessary to have a fulfilling college experience.

3) Our affirmative action policy is still firmly in place here at the University. The Office of Minority Affairs administers our programs aimed at outreach and support for minority students (this includes non-Asian students, economically or educationally disadvantage students, and others). For more information contact (206) 543-5715.

4) Obviously GPA and test scores are the most important factors in determining admissibility but they are not the only factors we consider. The personal statement is also extremely important in the admissions decision. This is where a student can make his/her case if the grades and test scores don't tell the whole story. Extra-curricular activities are also key in helping us make a decision so please provide as much info as possible.

Best of luck in your future academic endeavors.
