Subject: A few questions
1. What is campus life like here?
Davis is a college town with a friendly atmosphere. The campus
has over 300 clubs and organizations that a student can be
involved in. We have a vast array of intercollegiate and club
sports to participate in. Our residence hall facilities offer
learning resource centers. A Learning Skills Center is available.
Students take academics seriously here, but make time for fun as
well. On campus there is a movie theater, bowling, arts and
crafts classes, horseback riding, etc. We are approx. 20 minutes
from the state capitol, 1 1/2 hours from San Francisco or the
coast, 2 hours from the Tahoe/Reno area.
2. What sets this college apart from the rest of the pack?
UC Davis is best known for its Biological Sciences, agricultural
sciences and its School of Veterinary Medicine. We have
outstanding programs in many areas including art, humanities,
environmental studies, ethnic studies and engineering. Davis too
is known for its friendly atmosphere and its college town
setting. We received the Sears Directors' Cup 2 years in a row
which recognizes UC Davis as the most outstanding Division II
school in the nation for intercollegiate athletics. Davis has one
of the largest internship and career centers in the country
offering internships locally as well as internationally. UC Davis
is among the highest of the UC's in persistence to graduation.
3. What is your policy on affirmative action for non-Asian
minorities?
Our campus will adhere to Prop. 209 regulations and SP-1
guidelines initiated by the UC Regents. Race will not be used as
a determining factor in future admissions.
4. There is much criteria that it takes to get into a top
notch college like {name of college}. Could you put the following
criteria in order from most important to least important?
SAT/ other standardized test scores
grades/GPA
difficulty level of classes taken
participation in sports
leadership positions/extracurricular activities
Freshmen are selected on the basis of an academic index which
combines the GPA, SAT I & SAT II scores. 60 % of our students
are selected on the basis of this academic index. The remaining
40% of students are selected using supplemental criteria which
includes factors such as leadership, special talents and
community/cultural involvement.
