Dear Sonia,
I am pleased to learn of your interest in Johns Hopkins. In order to put you on our mailing list, I will need some more information from you such as: address, phone#, social security number (optional), high school, intended college major, and extracurricular interests.
In terms of what Hopkins looks for in a student, there are three main criteria. First and foremost we will be looking at your academic transcript, in particular at the quality of the courses you are taking. JHU is a challenging academic environment and the best preparation for it is to challenge yourself in your high school classes as much as possible. For example I would rather see a B in AP Calculus than an A in precalc. Further, I would rather see a student continually improve their performance from freshman to senior year than to see a student whose grades dropped in the junior or senior year. The second criteria that we will look at will be your standardized testing scores. We typically see 31s and above on the ACT and our average SAT I score is a 1390. JHU also requires students who take the SAT I to take 3 SAT II tests, one of which must be the writing test. The third criteria is extacurricular involvement. It is important for us to enroll students who will be active members of our campus community. We look for committment (ie: hours/week and # of years involved) as well as leadership. Do not sign up for 20 different clubs just to write them on your application. Look for activities which interest you and get actively involved in those clubs.
I hope this answers some of your questions. Good luck in the college selection process.
Sincerely,
Audrey
