Criteria for Review

Dear Friend,
It is important for you to know how I came up with criteria for rating these web sites. You should be assured that I did not badly rate a site because I was tired or having a bad hair day. You should be assured that I did not rate a site well because the college is prestigious in either academics or in name. As far as I am concerned, all these colleges are excellent in academics AND name, simply because they are THE BEST IN THE NATION. It is that simple. Without further ado, I give you criteria for rating:

4

To get a 4, this web site must have a massive amount of information about their school. This information must be important. I am more concerned with finding out about what the school's mission statement is than I am with what the students do there on the weekends. I want to know how the admissions process works. I want to know things like the SAT scores of the entering freshman class. Furthermore, this information should be easy to locate. If I can't find what I want within a few minutes, it is a waste of time and money, not to mention annoying.

3

This rating is more of an in-between when it is difficult to rate sites as a clear-cut good or bad. Many sites are still works in progress. If the sites can fulfill most of the criteria, they deserve a 3.

2

This rating is also an in-between rating. When a school gets a 2, it is when they have important information that is difficult to find, or not enough information to make the site useful to a prospective undergraduate student.

1

When the web site does not meet any of my criteria for a 4. I.e., a really useless site.

0

This category is for sites tht are under construction, are laughably incomplete, or non-existant.

In closing, you should realize that, of course, I am not infallible. That is why Jaime is also there to also provide his opinion. Furthermore, a bad web site does not mean a bad school. We are in no way trying to imply that. So, in other words, read what we have to say, check out the sites, and form your own separate opinions about the school and the site. Feel free to write to me with any comments that you have.

Sincerely,
Sonia
