About our Maps
The maps on our web site are the end
result of many hours of hard work. All of the maps we created ourselves
using information that we found in research. We began with a pencil
drawing of a wall map, recording only the outline of land. We scanned
the penciled image into the computer converting to bitmap form. As
a bitmap image, a matrix of defined pixel values, we found the image
quality inappropriate. When scanned many of the contour lines were incomplete,
with visible gaps. To solve this problem, and make our maps more unique,
we traced the bitmap image and converted it to a vector image, using CorelTRACE.
We then had to adjust the vector nodes that did not align properly and
made subtle changes in landscape. This was the most difficult part, taking
us many hours to complete. As a vector we were able to resize the image
without distorting it or losing quality and use the basic design for multiple
maps. The rivers were drawn in vector format by hand. The maps were filled
with textures in CorelDRAW 7, and the labels and "blending" were done in
CorelPHOTO-PAINT 7.
