In South America there is a big chess following. Interest in
the game peaked when Jose Raul Capablanca of Cuba stormed the World Champion
throne and became its king in 1921. Argentina produced the famous
Miguel Najdorf, who invented a variation in the Sicilian opening, appropriately
named the Najdorf Sicilian. Numerous world youth championships have
been hosted by Brazil.
