Paul Morphy
"Chess is eminently and emphatically the philosopher's
game."
World Champion 1858-1859
Born: 1837, New Orleans
Died: 1884, New Orleans
Paul Morphy was a real lover of chess. He played immensely beautiful
combinations which were possible
because of his good positional
play. Morphy was only on the chess scene for a brief time from 1858-1859
before he pursued an unsuccessful career as a lawyer.
