ChessWise University Online is happy to offer a free
"How to Play Chess" course for those interested in
learning the grand game.

The course features 7 lessons, 20 interactive
exercises, 15 practice problems, and a 6 question quiz
(which pulls it's problems from the practice examples
randomly and is timed).

The interactive lessons are in a drag and drop Java
Chess board (called ChessWise Tutor), which allow the
viewer to actually pick up the piece and move it on
the board (which we thought was important in teaching
how to move the pieces).

The outline of the course is:

How to Play Chess Course
1: The Board (including Audio Intro)
2: The Pieces and Chess Notation
3: Checkmates
4: Draws
5: Key Concepts
6: New Player's Practice
7: Basic Chess Quiz

Each lesson has a survey at the end, which will allow
users to let us know how to improve the course. Any
feedback you have is welcome. To hear IM Maurice
Ashley's audio introduction, you need RealPlayer 5.0
(a free software from http://www.real.com that is
easy to install). Maurice is our "Dean of Chess" at
ChessWise.

Chess Coaches/Teachers are encouraged to use this
course or any of our 27 free lessons. Go to:

Thanks and we look forward to your feedback.
