Chess was originally used to settle wars between kings and to avoid bloodshed. We are long departed from those days. Chess is an art! Why shouldn't everyone enjoy? I teach Chess in an elementary school, and I must say that my enrollment is about 50-50. I have some male students that are brillian and some females that are just as brilliant and have the drive to win. Chess is a game of the mind, strategy, and personal expression. I teach that you want to play to the best of your ability. You want to go into the game with thought that you are going to play a better game than your opponent. You don't learn by winning all the time. I always come away from a game enjoying whether won or lost. I teach the kids the same thing. It is a step away from some of those "stereotypical" educational roles. That is why we have both the ladies and gentleman play.
