My computer plays the Tchigorin quite often. Playing white against it, I've found the Tchigorin to be very "trappy," especially if white continues playing c4 and developing like a QGD setup. I've had good luck, though, by setting up a Torre-like position, overprotecting the d-pawn, and then trying to take advantage of black's weakness in the Chigorin: the blocked c pawn.
Then again, I'm a hack (no false modesty here, either). What do you real players think?
