Jim Crow or segregation laws was the nickname given to former laws of Southern states of the United States providing separate facilities for blacks and whites in street cars, trains, schools, and theaters. The laws were passed segregating blacks and whites in almost all public areas. They were made to create two separate societies in the South. These laws made things supposedly "separate but equal," but certainly were not.
