Site Info Section When it comes to education ... it must be fun. Why go to school? Why learn? Why go on in life when times are hard? The answer to many of these questions normally comes back, because you just have to! and the people who normally force these things on us are our parents. Why? Because they know what is best for us, but why can't it be fun too? Well, we thought about this idea for a little while and decided that the problem with education today is that (especially in the US, but it is the same all over the world) is that we go to school to be tested. We learn to be tested not because it is fun. As a matter of fact, we almost spend half of our time in school being tested in some way or another. In life there always has to be some reward ... whether it be in the form of a letter grade or in the form of other incentives. Why not learn just for the sake of learning? We have spent many hours discussing this concept in an IRC chat room when we first formed our team, and we concluded a few things. First, if learning isnt fun people wont want to do it. Second, if learning is fun people will not only comprehend and remember, but they will be able to apply it to the way they live because they didnt just learn it ... they experienced it. As we discussed in the objective, we are designing a site that will pioneer how we learn. We will take golf ... a simple topic and make it EVEN SIMPLER! The idea is that we will make golf into both a game and an educational course. How will this happen? The answer is quite simple, our team looked at golf from many perspectives ... history, physics, gameplay, psychology, health and fitness, and technique, but in the end made sure we had a section called "Fore Fun!" (Without fun, we wouldn't be doing Thinkquest and we wouldn't be building a site that we actually wanted used for educational purposes!) The information will be broad based to allow for a strong foundation in which to build on. Once the course materials are written and designed, the coaches and the students will design a 1 semester course around all the information. But this sounds like school? Well, yes and no! Yes it does sound like school because it involves learning and learning involves work, dedication, and effort, but we are students and know that we wouldnt want to spend more time (after school and homework) on the computer trying to stuff more information into our heads ... we want to have fun. That is where we come in. Users can log into our site ... participate in chat sessions concerning golf ... talk about their good days on the back nine, talk about their mishaps with the sand traps, and maybe even their current trips to courses around the world. The key to the whole concept is that users can go at their own paces ... have fun and learn at the same time. There is so much to do that every experience that they embark on will be like playing 18 with the pros at the British Open. (With a caddie like us ... learning will be fun and exciting for all who participate.)
