| Since
the start of the Sony World Ranking in April
1986, Norman has never been out of the top 10. He
is the only golfer to retain a top-10 place
throughout the history of the Ranking. He was
ranked world number one at the end of 1986, 1987,
1989, 1990 and 1995. Greg lost play-offs in all four
major championships. He has won over $9m on the
US Tour alone and his first victory as a
professional was the West Lakes Classic in
Australia in October 1976. In 1986 he led all
four major championships after 54 holes, but only
won one of them - the British Open. Because of
this rare occurrence the press said Norman had
achieved the 'Saturday Slam.'
Greg produced one of
the great finishing rounds in major championship
history when winning the 1993 British Open at
Royal St George's. Norman started the final day
one stroke behind co-leaders Corey Pavin and Nick
Faldo. Defending champion, Faldo, fired a
three-under-par 67 but this failed to contain the
brilliance of Norman who carded a 64 to win by
two strokes.
He topped the US Money
List in 1986, 1990 and 1995, and also won the
European Order of Merit in 1982.

 Victory in the 1993 British
Open brought the popular Norman his second major
title.

With
his brightly coloured clothes and distinctive
bush hat, Norman cuts quite a dash on the course.
