Graphics Level??

Language: English * Graphics Level: High

Welcome to The Golf Course. You have landed yourself on the home page of team 10556's 1997 Thinkquest Entry. This site is devoted to the teaching and promoting of the game of golf through our online resources. Below are a listing of our online resources, but before you move on to look at them ... we would like to take a moment to tell you about some of our other features.

You may have noticed, but if you haven't, we provide this site in two graphics levels (High Graphics & Low Graphics). High Graphics is loaded with interesting and eye pleasing graphics. Low Graphics does contain graphics, but only the important graphics are present. So if you are going to use the low graphics version, leave your graphics turned on anyway.

Also, you may have noticed that there are four different languages available of The Golf Course. This site has mirrors in English, Spanish, Italian, and German. Due to the large size of the site (around 7000 files), we could not translate the whole site, so you will find that the index pages are in their respective languages and then you return to english. We hope to fix this in the future.

Finally, we would like to thank a few people. First of all, our thanks must be extended to Willie Jolley! Willie Jolley wrote for us the introduction song on this page. We met him, at the awards ceremony in the Thinkquest 1996 competition. He is a talented man who's music and motivational speaking is exciting and innovative. Thanks Willie Jolley!

We also must thank all those people who beta tested our site. We have had our site tested on both the Macintosh and IBM platforms. We have had computers with Netscape 2.0, Netscape 3.0, Internet Explorer 2.0, and Internet Explorer 3.0. We also had users with monitor sizes set at 640 * 480, 600 * 800, and 1024 * 768 using 256, 64,000, and 16.7 million colors. So we feel that this site will be usable by a wide variety of people. Thanks to the beta testers!

Hello, this section is called "Fore" Fun for good reason. The reason is that it is designed to be PURE fun! What I mean is, this section has jokes in it. It has famous golf sayings in it. But what makes this particular section is that it has 4 bulletin boards to discuss any topic that you wish. The bulletin boards are:

  • Beginners Only
  • Equipmunk
  • Hot Topics
  • Hall of Shame

Ever since the first time that golf courses were built or golfers picked up a golf club, players have been trying to better their game. Since the beginning of the game of golf, there has been technological advances in everything from golf balls to golf clubs. Golf courses have been built with heaters under the greens so that golfing can become a year round sport. New shafts were designed. Perimeter weighted clubs were built ... why??? The reason is that people were trying to make the game of golf easier.

This section is essentially a "How To Play Golf Section!" It's intention is to all the users to learn about golf and some of the techniques that are used to play golf. There are discussions about clubs, technique, balls, emotions ... everything you need to play the game of golf!

Why look at the history of golf? Well, there are a few reasons. The first is that the history of the game is quite interesting and fascinating. Not good enough for you? Well, to understand the game, you must understand what it has gone through to get to the game we now know and love. Did you know that they banned golf in certain parts of the world? Well, in Scotland and other parts of the world, golfing was banned because it was taking men and their focus away for the army and the country using it on a "silly game" of golf! Fascinating, huh? Well, in this section, you will learn about how the game of golf began!

This is the Golf Course's Physics Section. By now, you know that The Golf Course is a web site designed to promote the game of golf, and as an educational resource to show that golf can be seen in a variety of avenues of our lives. This particular section (the Physics Section) shows how golf is interwoven into physics. (For those students out there ... I bet you thought that physics was useless!) Well ... you were wrong!

This section outlines the best in the game of golf. Call it our own Hall of Fame! So, you can look up your favorite golfer and learn a little about him/her.

This particular section (the Psychology Section) shows how psychology plays a role in the game of golf. (For those of you who have or haven't played golf ... have you ever really thought how psychology can play a role in golf? I hadn't!) Anyway, in this section, you will find a story about two couples and how psychology plays a role in the game play. You will also find a section where we interviewed a golf pro and heard what she had to say about psychology and golf. (Parts of our interview are in audio and video.)

This is the Site Info Section. What is Site Info, you ask? Well, Site Info is the place on our web site, where we get to tell you about us. It is a place for you to give us feeback on what we could do better or what we could do worse. (Why we would want to do something worse I don't know ... but please tell us what you think!) If you are going to e-mail us with your thoughts, there is an e-mail button to your left, or you can e-mail us at 10556@advanced.org (Link no longer functioning). (There is more stuff in this section than just e-mail addresses.)

Finally, the Teacher's Corner is a section for teachers to sit down and talk amongst themselves. There are chat facilities and newgroups available to discuss whatever is on your mind. There are articles about how to use the internet in the classroom and how to use this site in the classroom. There are also links that you can use to start to find other educational material on the internet!
