At it's most basic level, the Internet is a bunch of computers world-wide, arranged in such a manner, that information can be passed from computer to computer to get to it's destination. But trust us, it can get a lot more complicated then that!
The Internet also has some interesting history. We'll walk you through the last 50 years of computer networking. (networking itself goes back another 50, but that's another story.)
Today, the Internet is made up of over some 6 million servers and 46 million users. The Internet handles 66 Gigabytes (or 47,134 1.4mb floppy disks) of data every day! The Internet is growing fast too. In 1990, there were barely over a million users on the `Net as opposed to the over 46 million there are now. It's no wonder you need a guide like this to help you!
In addition to our History of the Internet, we also have tried to put together a history and "what is" for each of the major aspects of the Internet.
