What is the File Transfer Protocol? (FTP)

File Transfer Protocol (or FTP) is the most popular way to transfer files on the Internet. Large archives of files will reside on an FTP server. You can, using a client, go to the FTP archive to retrieve the files. Netscape and Internet Explorer have built-in FTP support. Here are some places you can go to get free software:

ftp.cdrom.com
ftp.wuarchive.wustl.edu

They might be busy, so if they are, just try back again later. People like getting free software, it might take a few tries.
